You can also introduce yourself to a friend of a friend. If your friend is talking with someone you don’t know, wait for a pause in the conversation and introduce yourself. Just say, “Hi, I don’t think we’ve met—I’m Cynthia.” If you’re shy, you can ask your friend to introduce you.

Another way to network is with activities or outings. Say you’re going to a movie with two friends. If they know somebody you don’t know, ask them to invite that person along. Parties, sports games, and other large-group activities are good places for networking. These are times when friends from different groups (like from your place of worship, school, or scouts) get together.
